How to do a sit up even if you have never done one before

I’m here to teach you how to set up and perform a perfect sit-up! Even if you have no core strength and can’t get up off the floor.

Most people when they think of starting to do sit-ups start laying on the floor and try to sit all the way up. If you have never done a sit-up before or have a weaker core you will know that this is extremely hard and often we end up using our backs to ‘fling’ ourselves back up which leaves a sore, lower back ache.

There is a way to get a strong enough core to sit-up without having to waste our backs while we do it. This way does not start by laying on the floor though, in fact this is the rewind! We start where you usually finish (in the sit-up position) and ‘fall down’ to the floor slowly to finish where you usually start (laying on the floor). Training our core this way lets us focus on engaging and activating the right muscle groups in a controlled motion in reverse rather than flinging ourselves (because we don't have the strength) to make the movement happen.

Building core strength doesn't have to be hard and it definitely shouldn't be leaving you with a backache. When you know how to set up, engage and control your movements you will feel the movement in the core and that's great because that is what we are trying to train here.

This is the exact process I use with all my clients when we are starting off. They are so surprised when they feel after just one week internally stronger and after a 2/3 of weeks they are on to the next level!

Give it a go and let me know how you get on!

If you are wondering how often you should do these moves to see similar results you should work your core 3 - 5 times a week. Do 10-12 reps of the exercise for 3 rounds. Don't attempt the advanced moves until you are ready for it.

Email me for my guide on 'How to Sit-Up' for pointers and pictures on how to set up and perform each move correctly from beginner to advanced. I'll send it right over :)
