Sciatica - What is it? How does it happen? What can we do about it?

Sciatica is nerve pain that runs from the lower back and shoots down the bum and leg on one side. People who have experienced sciatica will know how painful it is to live with. A constant shooting pain that runs down the leg or a burning sensation across the top of the leg is associated with sciatic pain.

This pain happens most commonly from nerve inflammation by being pinched by a disc in the lower spine.

I know firsthand how awful sciatic pain can be, once upon a very long time ago I had an extreme curvature of the spine, my surgery was a success but i suffered huge sciatic and piriformis nerve damage.

Sciatica is annoying, you may have tried a number of painkillers that dont really help to ease the pain it constantly aches. Having to live with sciatica can take a toll on your mental well-being, always being in pain makes it hard to relax and enjoy moments in your day.

If you suffer with extreme sciatica - the best thing i can recommend is that you go and see a doctor - a doctor will get you to a physio that can actually help with your pain specifically. and I really do recommend it! I know I'm a fitness preacher but the only pain relief I felt from sciatica was stretches. I did them 3 times a day - every day! I didn't particularly enjoy it but i did feel the benefit and \i still do them at least once a day (except weekends).

A lot of people that suffer with sciatica do see a great improvement with movement.

Check out this one for some great, effective stretches for sciatic pain.
